A six word update (6wu) is a very powerful tool.

It helps you distill what’s going on in your world right now, when you force yourself to summarise everything into six words.

“Forced brevity causes you to think”

It can be a conversation starter with your team, and a great way to get an understanding of what’s going on in their worlds

You can even use it around the dinner table with your family, to help them think about things a little differently

It works amazingly well in both group settings and as a reflective tool for yourself.

I sit sometimes and empty out my head with many 6wus for the varying projects and activities I have going through my head

The act of really thinking about it helps you sanity check that you’re working on the right things

Give it a go.

Write it down your side.

Send it to me if you like.

I’d love to hear what’s going on in your world.

Here’s the one front of mind for me right now: Getting my girls back tonight. Yay!

A few more:
Five more sleeps until my birthday
The weekends going to be busy
Execution without strategy is a waste

A mix of work and pleasure!

Now it’s your turn…

Over to you

Try it, and you might realise it’s harder than it looks 😉

(a hat tip to Nic Peterson, who taught me this)
